Poon Tip Stud Farm located in the picturesque valley of Santa Cruz was founded in the mid sixties by the late Alwin Poon Tip. The farm comprising 75 acres of rolling pastures has been at the forefront of the breeding industry in Trinidad &Tobago.
The success of Poon Tip Stud Farm (PTSF) is due to the vision and love of the thoroughbred of its founder Alwin Poon Tip who was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 2000. He was the pioneer of importing stallions to improve the local breeding industry and he believed this, along with pastures for grazing and exercising all year round and strong management were the keys to success.
The success of progeny bred at the PTSF is there for all to see in the annals of horse racing with numerous champions and winners of several Jetsam Awards.
This fact can be clearly borne out by the farm’s success in the premier event of the racing calendar, The Trinidad Derby. In the last 40 years, horses sired and foaled at the farm have won the event 13 times.
